Powder coating is a dry finishing process.  The dry powder is applied to the metal substrate using a process called electrostatic spray deposition (ESD).  This application method works by electrostatically charging the powder particles as they are sprayed from the gun.  The metal substrate is grounded causing the positively charged particles to cling.  Once the entire part is covered, the powder must be baked in an oven at approximately 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
